National Association of REALTORS®

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is the largest collective of real estate brokers in the country, as well as the oldest. Their advocacy efforts span decades and causes as diverse as net neutrality, the equal rights amendment, and – of course – fair housing.

In 2018, we created an 8-part series that detailed the history of housing accessibility in America and NAR’s role in creating that history. Our close working relationship and NAR’s willingness to look at its own history with an unflinching eye resulted in compelling, honest work that shows how America’s history of housing accessibility was, for so many, a history of inaccessibility. These eight articles laid the groundwork for our 2019 partnership, a series of 12 articles that showed how current issues intersected housing policy. These articles were produced newsroom-style, pitching NAR on articles as events unfolded, resulting in timely current-event pieces that resonated with our finger-on-the-pulse-of-news readers.

To ensure engagement from readers across the site, both campaigns featured interactive banner assets, produced by the Daily Beast. Our 2018 campaign showcased the articles in a decade-by-decade timeline, with accompanying pictures of era-appropriate homes. Our 2019 program took advocacy one step further: our “interactivism” module updated creative based on a reader’s geo-location. After selecting one of three core NAR issues – net neutrality, fair housing, or tax reform – readers could see who their senators are, how they most recently voted on the issues, and information to contact their representatives if they disagreed.
